I am very pleased to be here to offer my congratulations and that of the U.S. government to CVAR for winning the Europa Nostra Grand Prix for Education, Training and Awareness-Raising for 2017.

While the United States is a relatively young country, we have a great respect for cultural heritage, which we help to protect all over the world.

In Cyprus we have helped to fund the restoration of the walls of old Nicosia, the Armenian Monastery in Nicosia, the Hala Sultan Tekke, and the Apostolos Andreas monastery, among others.

The $2 million dollars we committed in 2013 to CVAR have, along with the generous contributions of other donors, helped create this magnificent place.

CVAR is a museum, a library, a research center, a home.

Since opening in 2014, CVAR has become a place of gathering and learning.  CVAR is a place that promotes mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence through the appreciation of a shared past, and lays the foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and united future.
