Assistant Secretary of State for Political-Military Affairs R. Clarke Cooper travelled to the Republic of Cyprus October 18-19.  Assistant Secretary Cooper spoke with  Minister of Foreign Affairs Nikos Christodoulides,  Minister of Defense Charalambos Petrides, and other  senior government officials on issues of security cooperation and defense trade, including plans to provide International Military Education and Training (IMET) opportunities for Republic of Cyprus military personnel, and the expanded access to non-lethal U.S. origin defense articles and services controlled under the International Traffic in Arms Regulation.  As part of his meetings, Assistant Secretary Cooper was able to tour Cyprus’s Zenon Center at the Joint Rescue Coordination Center.
