Assistant Secretary of State Nuland to Visit Cyprus

The Embassy of the United States of America announces the visit of Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, Victoria Nuland, from April 19-20, 2016.  Assistant Secretary Nuland will be accompanied by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Southern Europe and Eastern Mediterranean Affairs, Amanda Sloat.  Assistant Secretary Nuland is looking forward to returning to Cyprus to meet with President Nicos Anastasiades, Mr. Mustafa Akinci, and UN Special Adviser to the Secretary-General on Cyprus Espen Barth Eide in order to hear about progress in the talks to resolve the longstanding division of the island and to discuss bilateral issues.  She will also meet with other senior officials.

The United States continues its long-standing support for a Cypriot-led, UN-facilitated process to reunify the island.  As a bizonal, bicommunal federation, Cyprus would be a beacon of stability and a model of reconciliation in this volatile region.
