The U.S. Embassy in Nicosia supports a variety of exchange opportunities for American citizens to come to Cyprus through the Fulbright program. Each year, approximately 6,000 new Fulbright grants are awarded to individuals through the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). Grants are given to American students, teachers, and scholars to study, teach, lecture and conduct research in more than 155 countries in the world, as well as to foreign nationals to engage in similar activities in the United States.
The Fulbright Scholar Program brings U.S. faculty and professionals to Cyprus each year. Grantees lecture and conduct research in a wide variety of academic and professional fields.
The ETA program provides U.S. undergraduate or graduate students opportunities to assist in the teaching of English at local primary, high or post-secondary institutions in Cyprus. The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions in Cyprus for a period of 2 to 6 weeks. This program allows universities, cultural centers, non-governmental organizations and other institutions in Cyprus to develop collaborative projects which host a leading U.S. academic or professional at their institution to work on diverse, short-term collaborative projects focused on education and training. These projects support critical priorities identified by the host institutions and supported by the U.S. Embassy in Cyprus.
