Learn, exchange, grow, and serve. The U.S. Department of State offers many programs for non-U.S. citizens wishing to come to the U.S. for cultural, educational, or professional exchange. These programs are augmented by local opportunities in countries around that world that allow non-U.S. citizens to explore U.S. culture and the English language.

The Fulbright Visiting Scholar program provides an opportunity for Cypriot doctoral or equivalent degree holders to lecture, conduct advanced research, or pursue a combined program of lecturing and research at U.S. universities and/or non-academic institutions. Cypriot scholars who receive these grants will spend the Fall 2023 or Spring 2024 academic semesters in the U.S. working with their host to carry out their proposed project.
The Fulbright-Schuman Program is administered by the Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States and Belgium, and is jointly financed by the U.S. State Department and the Directorate-General for Education and Culture of the European Commission. The program funds graduate and post-graduate study, research, and lecture proposals in the field of US-EU relations, EU policy, or EU institutions for interested American and EU citizens.
The Fulbright Specialist Program sends U.S. faculty and professionals to serve as expert consultants on curriculum, faculty development, institutional planning, and related subjects at academic institutions here a period of two to six weeks.
Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program
The U.S. Embassy in Cyprus is pleased to announce the competition for the 2023-2024 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program. The Hubert H. Humphrey Program is a Fulbright exchange that brings mid-career professionals with demonstrated leadership potential to the United States for a year of non-degree graduate-level study, leadership development, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts. By providing future leaders and policymakers with experience in American society, culture, and professional fields, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas.
Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellow Summer Institute
The Benjamin Franklin Transatlantic Fellowship (BFTF), a program of the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, began in 2006 to commemorate the 300th anniversary of birth of Benjamin Franklin, the legendary American statesman and diplomat, whose career, interests, and studies took him across the Atlantic Ocean, bringing about better understanding between Americans and Europeans.
Study of the U.S. Institutes Program
The Study of the U.S. Institutes promote a better understanding of the people, institutions, and culture of the United States among foreign students, teachers, and scholars. Study of the U.S. Institutes (SUSIs) are short-term academic programs for groups of undergraduate leaders, educators, and scholars from around the world. Hosted by academic institutions throughout the United States, these 5- to 6-week Institutes include an intensive academic residency and an integrated educational study tour. Extracurricular cultural and community activities help to broaden the participants’ understanding of U.S. society. .
The United States supports international education and welcomes foreign students and exchange visitors. Before applying for a visa, students and exchange visitors must be accepted by their schools or program sponsors.
